Community guidelines

Rules for the community board: 280 characters, plain text, no links, and no being horrible.

Applies to the community board
These rules apply to the community board: distro ratings and short takes. They are short on purpose.

The rules

Argue about init systems all you like. Do not argue about people.

What a take is

  • At most 280 characters of plain text.
  • One opinion about one distro. Say what you used it for, and for how long, if you can.
  • No formatting, no images, and no links. Writing #debian links to the Debian page for you.

What gets hidden

  • Slurs, harassment, threats and targeting of people or communities.
  • Spam, advertising, copy-pasted duplicates and link-dropping.
  • Off-topic posts, impersonation, and posting someone's personal information.
  • Mocking other users. Mocking init systems is fine; they are not people.

Reports

Any signed-in user can report a take. When three different people report the same take, it is hidden automatically until an admin reviews it. A hidden take that holds up is purged after 90 days; a wrongly hidden one is restored, and its reports are cleared.

Limits

  • One take per minute and 20 per day; 200 votes per hour; 20 reports per day.
  • The same text cannot be posted twice within 24 hours.
  • GitHub accounts younger than 30 days can read but not rate, post, vote or report.
  • Reporting something just because you disagree with it counts as abuse of reports.

Bans

Admins can hide takes and ban accounts. A ban hides all of that account's takes and blocks further rating, posting, voting and reporting. Repeat or severe violations are banned without warning. To appeal, email the address on the contact page.

Deleting your content

You can delete any of your takes yourself. To delete your account and everything attached to it, use the delete option on /me. The privacy page explains what is stored.
